In the over-saturated market of the superhero genre, Amazon’s The Boys offers an alternative look at heroes audiences have become all too familiar with. This, along with some excellent storytelling and a few charismatic performances, makes this one of the most exciting television series in recent years.
Review: Mulan (2020)
Disney’s latest attempt to adapt yet another beloved animated classic falls flat in almost every regard. With most of the fun and light-heartedness stripped away, there’s very little joy to be found in 2020’s live-action Mulan when compared to the predecessor, but some decent acting, directing and production design makes the film at least watchable.
Review: Love, Victor – Season One
As a follow-up to a beloved coming of age film, Love, Victor attempts to offer a more unique perspective on the coming out story. While it mostly succeeds at this goal, the series suffers from poor pacing and a highly unlikable protagonist.
My Top 10 Episodes of Glee
Glee was one of the most influential pieces of television when it first debuted in 2009 to wide critical acclaim. The high school melodrama combined with a rag-tag, diverse group of unpopular teenagers coming together to sing in a glee club was something so new at the time. Although the quality certainly dipped in later seasons, Glee more than staked its spot in television history.
Review: Cruel Intentions
When talking about teen dramas of the 1990s, Cruel Intentions can often be overlooked as one of the most influential and groundbreaking films of the genre.
Review: Defending Jacob
In what may appear as a run-of-the-mill murder mystery on the surface, Defending Jacob is actually a refreshingly eerie take on the genre. With a dark story filled with twists and turns, beautiful direction and outstanding cast performances at its core, the AppleTV miniseries sets itself apart by being one of the best series of 2020.
Review: The Mandalorian – Season One
With the Star Wars fandom completely divided on how Disney has handled the property since it’s acquisition, it seems as though there is one thing both sides can agree on: The Mandalorian is a fantastic show.
Review: Looking for Alaska
In what could have easily been a cliched and retreaded young adult story, this miniseries adaptation of John Green’s bestselling novel instead offers a refreshing and interesting perspective on the heartbreaking ups and downs of growing up.
Review: To All the Boys – P.S. I Still Love You
In the sequel to Netflix´s teen romance smash hit, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You is slightly less satisfying as a film than its predecessor. However, fans of the first are likely to still find plenty to love in character development and storylines for these very likable characters that is a perfect watch for the Valentine's Day season.
Review: Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)
As it’s excessive title would imply, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a fun romp that, while small in scale, is just as enjoyable as any comic book film out there.
